Claimed to be World’s first production vehicle to feature driving assistance warning in multiple LTE-V2X communication scenarios
Qualcomm Technologies tells is that it is working with Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd. to support intelligent connectivity technologies in Hongqi’s E-HS9 vehicles. The new Hongqi E-HS9 – a full-size intelligent electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) of the Hongqi brand – features the Quectel AG15 module integrated with the Qualcomm 9150 Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) chipset solution. It is claimed to be the industry’s first production vehicle that has achieved 100% validation of driving assistance warning in multiple LTE-V2X communication scenarios and the world’s first commercialized vehicle to feature LTE-V2X technology. Additionally, Hongqi E-HS9’s sub-meter high-precision positioning capabilities, supported by Qualcomm Dead Reckoning and Qualcomm Technologies’ positioning fusion technologies, are said to cater to users of this vehicle in pursuit of superior safety, intelligence and technological innovation.
Also known as C-V2X across the globe, LTE-V2X is a global solution for V2X communications. It is designed to support improved automotive safety, traffic efficiency, and automated driving using high performance real-time direct communication between vehicles, as well as with roadside infrastructure.
The Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset is Qualcomm Technologies’ first-announced solution for C-V2X and is designed to improve vehicle communication range and reliability and to lower latency with intelligent connectivity technology. The integration of the Quectel AG35 module with the (i) Qualcomm MDM9628 modem for automotive, (ii) Qualcomm Dead Reckoning and (iii) Qualcomm Technologies’ positioning fusion technologies with inertial measurement and other automotive sensors, supports sub-meter level high-precision positioning on the Hongqi E-HS9, which apparently allows for safer and better driving experiences to this intelligent connected vehicle, and enhances mobility efficiency.
To assess its intelligent connectivity capabilities, the Hongqi E-HS9 was tested under the L3 autonomous driving mode over multiple V2X use cases—including Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Warning/Lane Change Warning (BSW/LCW) and Intersection Collision Warning (ICW)—and Qualcomm believes that the pass rate of 100% effectively validated the robustness of the C-V2X technology.
“With China’s new plans to upgrade its current roadside infrastructure, the development of intelligent connected vehicles has become an important strategic decision in driving transformation and advancing the Chinese automobile industry. Qualcomm Technologies is committed to working with ecosystem partners and propelling the Chinese automobile industry forward through its technological innovations and rich product portfolio,” said Gang Sun, vice president of product marketing, Qualcomm International (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. “We are proud to have Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset platform power the world’s first commercialized LTE-V2X-enabled vehicle, and to see Hongqi’s innovation and vision for vehicle intelligence and connectivity further push Chinese automobile brands into a new era of smart transportation.”
Doron Zhang, chief operation officer, Quectel added, “We have launched many module products with Qualcomm Technologies’ automotive technologies, in order to support Chinese and global automakers, to enhance the levels of intelligence and connectivity on vehicles, and to speed up the next generation of automobile technological transformation. We are excited to support C-V2X commercialization of FAW’s Hongqi E-HS9 and believe this product will deliver unprecedented safe and efficient driving experiences to users.”
